Steve 'Severen' Smith

Steven 'Severen' Smith is a Melbourne based Artist and Music Industry Professional with more than 20 years experience working as a Professional Musician, Educator, Recording Engineer, Live Sound Technician and Producer.  Over his career he has toured extensively throughout Australia and Internationally, performing and working in venues of all sizes as well as at major festivals such as Splendour in the grass, Womadelaide, Meredith, Falls Festival, V8 Supercars

and many more.

 

As a Drummer and Percussionist he has been involved in a diverse range of projects, from Orchestras and World Music Ensembles, through to contemporary Rock outfits and Hip-Hop acts.  In addition to his performing, he has worked extensively in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary education systems in a diverse range of roles such as, Instrumental Teacher, Workshop Facilitator and Project coordinator for various Arts Organisations and Not For Profit groups.  This work has taken him to many unique locations including a number of remote Indigenous communities from Areyonga in Central Australia, right up to Yilpara/Baniyala in East Arnhem Land, as well as various locations throughout the Northern Territory.

As a solo artist he produces music under the name Terracotta Pigeons.  This solo rock project has been active since 2008, with three independent releases and a fourth currently being produced in 2020.  Representing absolute freedom for the Multi-Instrumentalist, he is able to explore his own musical ideas, experiment with recording and production techniques, and has complete flexibility around releases and touring.  In true DIY fashion, all of the instruments and vocals are performed, recorded and produced by the Artist, and released through his label Muscle Mothership Productions.

 

Terracotta Pigeons have performed extensively by utilizing session players for live shows.  They have toured twice to North America, showcased at Canada's North By North East Festival in Toronto, and shared stages in Australia with acts including Karnivool, Powderfinger, Wolfmother, Jimmy Barnes, The Presets and The Butterfly Effect to name a few.

 

Applying a multifaceted approach to working within the industry has been a constant and effective strategy in maintaining a long term career for this professional.  In 2020 he continues to work on a diverse range of projects from the studio to the stage.
